These Terms of Use set out the acceptable-use rules and code of conduct for Lingu English on lingu.com, app.lingu.com, my.lingu.com and the Lingu apps (the “Service”). They are part of the Terms of Service, which is the governing contract you accept when you create an account or buy. Billing, cancellation, liability and governing law are covered by the Terms of Service; where these Terms of Use conflict with the Terms of Service, the Terms of Service prevail. The Service is provided by Lingu Ltd (formerly Perfectly Spoken Limited), registered in England and Wales under company number 09197891.
Your account is personal to you and may not be transferred, shared, or resold. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity carried out under your account, and you must notify us promptly at hello@lingu.com if you suspect unauthorised use. You must be at least 16 years old to use the Service. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must agree to the Terms of Service and make any purchase for you. You must provide accurate registration information and keep it up to date.
The Service is provided for your own personal, non-commercial language learning. You agree to use it lawfully, respectfully, and in line with these Terms of Use and the Terms of Service. In live classes and other shared features, treat other learners and our teachers with courtesy and respect.
You must not:
We may review activity and messages on the Service where needed to keep it secure, enforce these Terms of Use, comply with our legal obligations and protect users, as described in our Privacy Policy.
All Service content is owned by Lingu or its licensors. You receive a limited, personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive, revocable licence to access and use the content for your own personal, non-commercial language learning only; any reproduction, redistribution, public performance, modification, sale, or sublicensing without our prior written consent is prohibited. By uploading content (such as written submissions, board contributions or comments) you grant Lingu a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use it to provide the Service to you; we will not publish your personal submissions without your consent except in features designed for that purpose. The full intellectual-property terms are in clause 8 of the Terms of Service.
Some features use AI, for example conversation practice, writing review and support. AI feedback supports, and does not replace, your teacher, and it can be wrong. What you submit to AI features is processed only to provide the Service to you, as described in the Privacy Policy and on our AI Transparency page. Your data is not used to train AI models.
If you break these Terms of Use we may, acting reasonably, issue a warning, remove content, or suspend or end your access. What happens to a paid plan or programme in that case is set out in clause 6 of the Terms of Service; your legal rights as a consumer are not affected. Serious or unlawful conduct may be reported to the relevant authorities.
