Lingu English is provided by Lingu Ltd (formerly Perfectly Spoken Limited), a company registered in England and Wales under company number 09197891, with its registered office at 29a Crown Street, Brentwood, Essex, CM14 4BA, United Kingdom (“Lingu”, “we”, “us”).
These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) apply when you create an account with or buy from Lingu English on lingu.com, our learning platform at app.lingu.com and my.lingu.com, or the Lingu apps (together, the “Service”).
These documents also form part of your contract with us: the Terms of Use, the Refund & Cancellation Policy and the Subscription & Billing Terms. If they conflict with these Terms, these Terms apply unless the other document says otherwise. Our Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy and AI Transparency page explain how we handle your data; they are not part of the contract.
Our contract with you starts when we confirm your order by email. You accept these Terms when you create an account or place an order. Please read them, and save or print a copy, before you buy.
We may change these Terms, for example to reflect changes in the law or in our services. For a plan that renews, we tell you about a significant change at least 30 days before it takes effect, and you can cancel before then. Changes do not apply to a one-off purchase you have already paid for.
| Product | What it is | How you pay |
|---|---|---|
| Easy English and other self-study plans | Self-study lessons, AI practice and teacher feedback | Monthly, or prepaid for a longer period |
| English Live | Ongoing live group classes with a teacher, with no fixed end date | Monthly, or prepaid for a longer period |
| Fixed-date programmes (English Fast-track and other cohort programmes) | A programme with a set start and end date and a teacher-led programme | One-off payment |
| Private lessons | Packs of one-to-one lessons with a teacher | One-off payment |
| Add-on bundles | Extra lessons, materials or services added to a plan | One-off payment |
The product page and checkout show what each product includes, such as the number of classes, lessons or feedback you get, and its price. That description forms part of your contract. We may make minor changes to the Service, for example to improve it or to reflect changes in the law, as long as they do not reduce what you have paid for. If we make a change that affects you significantly, we tell you and you may end the contract and receive a refund for the part you have paid for and not received.
The price, any discount, any taxes and, for a plan that renews, the renewal period are shown before you pay. We do not add fees at checkout. Payment, renewal reminders, price changes and failed payments are covered by the Subscription & Billing Terms.
If we have made an obvious error in a price or description, we may contact you before accepting your order or, if we have already accepted it, cancel it and refund what you paid.
If you buy as a consumer, you can cancel within 14 days of buying, without giving a reason. At checkout you can ask us to start straight away. If you do and then cancel within the 14 days, you pay for what you have already received and we refund the rest. If you do not, your access starts when the 14 days have ended. The Refund & Cancellation Policy explains how this works for each product and how to cancel.
You must be at least 16 to use Lingu English. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must agree to these Terms and make any purchase for you. Your account is personal to you: keep your sign-in details safe and do not share your account. Tell us at hello@lingu.com if you think someone else has used it.
When you use the Service, including live classes, you must follow the Terms of Use.
Lingu and its licensors own the content in the Service. We give you a personal, non-transferable licence to use it for your own learning while your plan or programme is active. You must not copy, share, resell, scrape or mirror it, or use it to train, fine-tune or test an AI model, without our written permission.
Some features use AI, for example conversation practice, writing review and support. AI feedback is practice guidance, not an official assessment, and it can be wrong. It does not decide your grades, levels or certificates, and it does not replace your teacher. Your data is not used to train AI models. See our AI Transparency page.
We must provide the Service with reasonable care and skill, and our digital content must be as described and of satisfactory quality. If it is not, tell us. Depending on the problem, you may be entitled to have us put it right, to a repeat of the class or lesson, or to some or all of your money back. These are your rights under consumer law, for example the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015, and nothing in these Terms affects them.
We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these Terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. Loss or damage is foreseeable if it is obvious that it will happen, or if you and we both knew it might happen when the contract was made. We are not responsible for loss or damage that is not foreseeable.
We do not exclude or limit our liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for breach of your legal rights as a consumer.
The Service is for your own private use. If you use it for business purposes, we are not liable to you for loss of profit, loss of business, business interruption or loss of business opportunity.
If you are unhappy with anything, email hello@lingu.com with your name and order number. We aim to reply within 5 working days and to resolve your complaint as quickly as we can.
These Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and you can bring legal proceedings in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts. If you live in the EU, the EEA or another country, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of the country where you live and can bring proceedings in your local courts.
If an organisation buys the Service for its people, our contract with that organisation applies, together with our Data Processing Agreement. These Terms apply only where that contract refers to them. Learners who use the Service through an organisation must still follow the Terms of Use.
